Charles River Laboratories raises over £1,000 for local brain tumour support

Earlier this month, our corporate partners, Charles River Laboratories in Keele, took on a Walk for Support to help families living with the impact of a brain tumour diagnosis.

The team trekked across the Staffordshire countryside and braved the April showers to raise over £1,000. This will help fund one of our in-person support groups in Stoke-on-Trent, providing local individuals and families affected by brain tumours with a welcoming space to connect, talk and feel less alone.

Corporate fundraising making a local difference

Lara Peacock from Charles River Laboratories said:

“Brain Tumour Support is an incredible charity dedicated to providing support for patients, families and carers, so that nobody feels alone facing the effects of a brain tumour diagnosis.

“We are proud to support this charity as our site Charity of the Year and delighted to raise over £1,000 through this sponsored walk. To know that this will help fund a support group for local families makes it all worthwhile.”

Nadia Hall, Brain Tumour Support Fundraising Manager, added:

“We’d like to thank the team at Charles River in Keele for their amazing effort. Not put off by the wind and rain, their fundraising will help people impacted by a brain tumour diagnosis feel supported, heard and less alone by funding an in-person support group.

“Walk for Support is our flexible walking fundraiser that teams can do at a time, place and distance to suit their needs. It’s a great way for colleagues to get together, use their volunteering days and do good for a life-changing cause.”

Why support groups matter

Joining a support group can feel like a big step, but for many people it can also be the moment they realise they do not have to face things on their own. Whether someone is living with a brain tumour diagnosis or supporting a loved one, support groups offer a safe and welcoming space to talk, listen and connect with others who understand.

Brain Tumour Support provides free, confidential online and face-to-face support groups for patients, families, friends and carers across the UK. These groups give people the opportunity to share experiences, ask questions and feel understood by others who know how isolating life with a brain tumour diagnosis can feel.

The money raised by Charles River Laboratories will help support this vital work locally in Stoke-on-Trent, helping more people access connection, reassurance and understanding closer to home.
