Fundraising comes in all shapes and sizes, and that’s the beauty of it. From big physical challenges or once in a lifetime experiences, to organising a small event or fundraising at home just doing something you enjoy.
Today we celebrate three friends from Cornwall, all of them living with the impact of a brain tumour and having met through their local support group in Truro. Each of them fundraises for Brain Tumour Support in their own very individual way.
Angela has used her front window at home to display information about Brain Tumour Support, as well as to show how to donate via her Just Giving page, which she set up for friends, neighbours and her running club to donate to. Earlier this year she held a ‘walk a lot, run a bit’ event, and invited her running club to join her, showing you don’t have to run a marathon to set yourself a running challenge.
Julie has for many years cared for her son who has a brain tumour, and knowing that support is there for her too has been very important to her. She has just started selling her beautiful artwork, as both cards and framed originals, through Crumbles Cafe and Tea Room in Cathedral Lane, Truro, with the proceeds going to Brain Tumour Support. When a painting sold recently for £80, Dottie, the owner of Crumbles, was so delighted for Julie that she very generously refused to take any commission on the sale. In addition to the valuable fundraising, there is information available about our work, so this also helps to raise awareness in the local community.
Linda makes and sells the most wonderful cakes, with the profits going to Brain Tumour Support. She makes special occasion cakes including for birthdays and Christmas, and this Easter Linda hand-delivered her fabulous Easter cakes around Cornwall. As well as satisfying many cake-loving customers, her baking over the past three years has now raised more than £1,100.
We love to see the creativity of fundraisers, and value every single one – and every single pound counts in helping us reach more families needing support.
Thank you to Angela, Julie and Linda – you really are inspiring.
