Marking International Nurses Day

The 12 May is the anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s birth and designated #InternationalNursesDay. So today we celebrate the work of caring, skilled and dedicated nursing staff everywhere, and of course particularly the neuro teams across the country with whom we’re very proud to work closely 💙

Understanding the complexities and challenges of the nursing role is essential for us to continue to develop our support services. We were delighted recently to welcome to our offices Bea Coghlan, Moya Kirmond and Garry Pearce who, along with CNS Jane Ryan, are the wonderful people who make up the Neuro Oncology Surgical Specialist Nursing Team at Southmead Hospital North Bristol NHS Trust. Spending time discussing the complexities of diagnosis and the referral process, gave much food for thought and inspiration for our ongoing work together to ensure patients and families receive the best possible support as soon as, and for as long as, it is needed.

Today also marks four years since the sad loss of Dame Tessa Jowell, and so we would also like to honour her legacy and the continuing work of the Tessa Jowell Foundation to improve brain tumour treatment and care for all across the UK.

We share that goal and passion and look forward to engaging with the nursing teams across all the NHS neuro centres to support their wonderful work.
