Sian Norman, a healthcare assistant and mum of two young children, was diagnosed with a brain tumour in January 2024. However, due to the position and nature of the tumour, surgery is considered too risky and she is currently being monitored by MRI scans every 3-6 months. The practical and mental impact of the diagnosis has been significant and, appreciating the value of the services Brain Tumour Support provides, Sian wanted to hold a fundraising event to say thank you and to help others affected.
After months of planning, with support from family, friends and local businesses, Sian’s special charity evening was held on Saturday 8 March at the Centuries Club, Kingswood, with around 200 people attending.
Local businesses supplied balloons and decorations for the venue, there were two great DJs, a raffle and an auction with a host of items and vouchers gifted by individuals and companies. Sian also secured the support of TV actor and BBC Radio Bristol presenter, Joe Sims, who attended and was auctioneer for the evening.
Sian said ‘I honestly cannot thank everyone enough for coming along and supporting myself to help raise funds for the most wonderful charity.
‘The room was full, the atmosphere was amazing, Joe Sims from BBC Radio Bristol brought all the energy with the auction, and the DJs were incredible. To everyone who bought tickets to attend, bought raffle tickets, donated money, donated raffle gifts and auction gifts, I honestly cannot thank you all enough, I will forever be grateful to you all.’
Sian proudly announced that the fundraising from the event was an incredible £8,148. Then some additional donations brought the final total to £8,238.
