Sian’s Brain Tumour Support Champion Fund

A Brain Tumour Support Champion Fund brings together friends, family and community to fundraise under a single named fund, turning personal experience into something that helps others. Sian set hers up after her own brain tumour diagnosis, determined to make sure free support is there for everyone who needs it.

Sian’s story

Sian was diagnosed with a brain tumour in January 2024. Initially, she was told surgery would remove it, but further tests changed everything. Because of the tumour’s position and shape, an operation would risk her losing more than half her memory. Surgery was ruled out.

Instead, Sian is on ‘watch and wait’, monitored with six-monthly MRI scans, and living with the uncertainty that brings.

She knows what it means to need people alongside you. And she knows what it means to have them. That’s why she set up her Brain Tumour Support Champion Fund, so that support is there for anyone who needs it, just as it was for her.

Without my family and friends, I would be completely lost. My neuro oncologist and nurses have been incredible — and Brain Tumour Support has been there too, in a way I didn’t expect. That support is massive. It’s why I wanted to give something back, and make sure it’s there for someone else when they need it.

What Brain Tumour Support does

Brain Tumour Support provides free, specialist support to anyone affected by a brain tumour, patients, families, carers and those who are grieving. No referral needed. No waiting list.

Support includes one-to-one guidance from specialist Support Professionals, online and in-person support groups, counselling, practical help with benefits and finances, and a 24/7 peer support community. It’s there at diagnosis, through treatment, and long after – for as long as someone needs it.

Every pound raised through Brain Tumour Support Champion Funds helps keep these services free and available to everyone who reaches out.

How Sian's supporters have shown up

Sian's Champion Fund has brought together friends, family and her wider community, each finding their own way to do something meaningful. From charity evenings and gruelling endurance challenges to a football club's annual celebration, every event has added to a total that will help real people, at some of the hardest moments of their lives.

Special charity evening

With fantastic support from family, friends and local businesses, Sian organised a special charity evening, held on Saturday 8 March 2025 at the Centuries Club, Kingswood, Bristol, with around 200 people attending.

With DJs, raffle and auction, hosted by special guest TV actor and radio presenter Joe Sims, the incredible fundraising from the event topped £8,000.

Wessex Wanderers FC JMG Day

Wessex Wanderers FC generously chose to support Sian’s Champion Fund with their 5th annual JMG charity day on June 28 2025.

The day, which celebrates the club in the name of its founder, Jack Moody-Grant, took place at Lockleaze Sports Centre, Bristol, with stalls and activities, a raffle and BBQ. It was a wonderful, fun-filled, family day and raised a fantastic £1,012.

Lee’s Race to the Stones

Family friend, Lee Galletly, took on the tough Race to the Stones challenge on July 12-13 2025.

Lee covered a demanding 100km across the ridgeway from Oxford to the Avebury Stones.

Donations in support of his challenge have reached more than £1,400, and can still be made on his online fundraising page.

Ollie and Lloyd’s golf challenge

On Saturday, 20 September, Ollie and Lloyd took on a special challenge to complete a non-stop, 45 holes of golf. That was significant in representing 45 people each day in the UK diagnosed with a brain tumour. They said:

Two people we love have been diagnosed with a brain tumour. Their strength and courage inspire us beyond words. We really wanted to do something for this cause, and for the people bravely fighting this condition.

Despite a looming thunderstorm, they completed their challenge in seven hours and raised an amazing £800.

Mark and Lewis's Three Peaks Challenge

On 26–27 July 2025, Sian's partner Mark Hooper and friend Lewis, with Mark's dad Rob as support driver, took on the National Three Peaks Challenge, climbing the highest mountains of England, Scotland and Wales within 24 hours.

The day before they set off, Mark learned that a friend had lost his own fight with a brain tumour. He said:

"I will be taking my memories of you with me up the three peaks tomorrow, in celebration of your life. I hope the money raised will provide families like ours with the support they need."

They completed all three peaks in 23 hours and 2 minutes, finishing within the 24-hour target that fewer than 40% of challengers achieve.

"Thank you all so much for your support — it inspired us every step of the way."
