  • 100g butter, cubed
  • 50g caster sugar
  • Optional: vanilla extract, chocolate chips, decorations

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (160°C fan). Line a baking tray with parchment paper.
  2. Rub the butter into the flour until it resembles breadcrumbs.
  3. Stir in the sugar and any additional ingredients.
  4. Bring the mixture together to form a dough.
  5. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1cm thickness.
  6. Cut into shapes using biscuit cutters and place on the baking tray.
  7. Bake for 10-12 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Allow to cool on a wire rack before decorating as desired.

Variations

Explore these variations to tailor your biscuits to the season or occasion:

  • Summer delights: Add lemon zest or substitute butter with coconut oil for a lighter treat.
  • Winter warmth: Incorporate cinnamon and nutmeg into the dough for a cosy winter flavour.
  • Halloween fun: Use spooky-shaped cookie cutters and decorate with orange and black icing.
  • Holiday magic: Sprinkle crushed candy canes on top before baking for a festive touch.
