Meet our trustees

Our Trustees guide our future

Our Board of Trustees brings together people with a wide range of skills, experience and personal insight. Together, they help guide the future of Brain Tumour Support and make sure we continue to act in the best interests of the people and families we support.

The Board of Trustees is ultimately responsible for the governance of the charity. This includes setting our strategy, agreeing policy and financial frameworks, and ensuring the charity is well run, legally compliant and focused on its charitable purpose.

Our trustees also help safeguard the charity’s assets, including its money, property and reputation, so that we can continue to provide trusted, specialist support for everyone affected by a brain tumour diagnosis.

Ali Woodhead (Chair)

Ali joined the Board of Trustees at Brain Tumour Support at the end of 2021, having met Tina through her wife’s family and already being familiar with the charity and Tina’s story.

Ali has lived in Bristol for 13 years and works in financial services, where she has held a range of marketing roles. She brings experience in digital marketing, leadership and risk management within a regulated organisation to the trustee team.

Ali says she has loved being part of the charity and has learnt a great deal from her fellow trustees and the senior leadership team. She is proud to take on the role of Chair at an important time in the charity’s development.

John Stuart

John first came into contact with the charity in 2004, after spending three life-changing weeks in hospital being diagnosed with, and having surgery for, a brain tumour.

When he was discharged, his Neuro-Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist gave him a pack of information, including a leaflet about Hammer Out, now Brain Tumour Support. The message that people facing the shock and bewilderment of a brain tumour diagnosis had others to turn to stayed with him.

John and his family received support from the charity and found comfort in knowing they were not alone. Since then, he has shared his story, acted as a patient representative and volunteered as a project manager for the charity.

John became a trustee in 2022. He brings both professional skills and lived experience, and is passionate about making sure the charity continues to respond to the needs of the community and deliver its “you are not alone” support for patients and families.

Sam Derricourt

Sam joined Brain Tumour Support as a trustee in April 2024. He has quickly become part of the charity community and enjoys giving his time and knowledge to support its vital work.

Sam’s connection to the charity is deeply personal. His dad died in 2014, 12 months after being diagnosed with a glioblastoma. While his dad received excellent care from the NHS, charities and a hospice, Sam felt there was limited support available for the family. When he heard about the work of Brain Tumour Support, its importance strongly resonated with him.

Sam lives in South Bristol with his wife and two young children. Outside work and family life, he enjoys being outdoors, playing sports, walking, cycling and swimming.

Professionally, Sam works as a Finance Business Partner for Lloyds Banking Group, where he has worked since 2013. He is a CIMA-qualified accountant and has held a range of roles across analytics, forecasting and business partnering.

Steve Mayers

I started as a trustee at Brain Tumour Support in April 2024. I have known Tina for 20+ years and have closely watched the charity, having lost my sister to a glioblastoma when she was only 18. Nearly 40 years on, the impact of her loss still affects me, so I really understand the value that the Brain Tumour Support brings.

I have spent most of my career in the mobile telecommunications industry, where I led technical, strategic, sales, delivery and operational teams. I now bring that experience to enable technology ‘start-up’ companies to fulfil their growth ambitions, drive revenues and explore new markets. I also help these companies raise funds from the private and public sectors.

I am honoured to be able to give something back, bring that experience to bear, and to play my part as the charity continues its fabulous journey. I have been so impressed by the passion, dedication and empathy within the team and look forward to helping in any way that I can.

Bea Coghlan

Bea joined the Board of Trustees for Brain Tumour Support in June 2026.

Professionally, she heads the Neuro-Oncology Specialist nursing service at Bristol NHS Foundation Trust (BFT). She has 35 years of experience in neuro medicine, neurosurgery, neuro rehab, epilepsy management, and neuro oncology.

Bea has held unit manager posts and has academically completed extended qualifications in all her roles. She brings a lifetime’s knowledge about the diagnosis and management of malignant brain tumours and how these conditions affect patients and families.

Serving as a trustee for Brain Tumour Support is deeply important to her because it allows her to make a further meaningful difference in the lives of patients and families facing one of the most challenging experiences imaginable.

As a trustee, Bea contributes her skills, experience, and perspective to decisions that have a lasting impact

Anne Felmingham

Anne joined the Board of Trustees at Brain Tumour Support in June 2026.

Anne’s mother passed away from a choroid plexus papilloma in 2011, following a prolonged period of progressing symptoms that began when Anne was just a teenager. Through her own lived experience, Anne has a profound understanding of the devastating impact a brain tumour diagnosis can have on close family members, and the immense challenge of balancing day-to-day life alongside it.

Her dedication to Brain Tumour Support stems from a passionate commitment to ensuring that everyone affected by a brain tumour feels supported, informed and heard. She is especially committed to helping provide the vital lifelines that she and her family lacked during their own journey.

Professionally, Anne is an experienced solicitor and co-owner of the personal injury law firm FT Chronic Pain Solicitors. She also volunteers with The West of England and Bristol Works, supporting local schools and helping students explore future career pathways.

Anne has lived in Bristol for 26 years and is a mother to two children. Outside of her professional and charitable commitments, she is an avid reader and keen traveller. She is also a self-confessed Disney World expert and loves to visit whenever the opportunity arises.
