I became involved with Brain Tumour Support in 2014 when my brother-in-law Jamie was tragically diagnosed with a glioblastoma grade 4 at the age of 41. As a family we were launched into a devastating and impossible landscape of very limited treatment options, all of which would result in us soon losing our wonderful Star Wars, photography, cycling and Lego loving Jamie; our brother-in-law, amazing father and husband.
Brain Tumour Support offered a safety net of emotional support to my sister and her family, they allowed her the strength to face each day to navigate the impossible time ahead for them all, whilst still being a mum, wife and sister to her family. During those early days I volunteered some time to share my experience and support the fundraising team, and following the birth of my first son in 2017 I very proudly joined the charity as an employee.
With a varied work background I bring with me experience of successful careers in the corporate banking and insurance world, project and people management, NHS patient support systems and latterly Children’s Hospice fundraising. My degree in health and social care, specialising in palliative care, underpins a desire to ensure client-led services remain a priority for our charity as we look to the future.
As a mum to two young boys, our family-friendly work culture and the values of our organisation are really important to me, and I feel immensly proud to work with such a passionate team who all support each other so well, and contribute incredibly to the difference we can make for anyone affected by a brain tumour.
