Sean’s Story
Sean is taking part in a kick-boxing fundraising event this November (2023), raising money for Brain Tumour Support, after we were able to provide him and his family with support, following his Mum’s sudden brain tumour diagnosis just before the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020. Sean has been kind enough to share his family’s story, and why fundraising is so important to him.
“Mum’s diagnosis was of course a massive shock, it was really hard to come to terms with and created a lot of worry and upset for myself and my family. Due to Covid restrictions, the wait list for treatment was longer than ever, and the position of the tumour created a lot of swelling, causing issues with mum’s memory and she developed epilepsy as a result, which of course added to our concern! It was really hard to see my mum struggle and battle with everything. She has always been larger than life and full of energy, and to see that ripped away from her at the beginning was awful to see, but she’s not a quitter and she’s come a long way from where she was. She still struggles with epilepsy from time to time, and has developed chronic fatigue in the process but she still tries her best to not let that control her life. She still musters up the energy to crawl around on the floor and give our one year old son the run around even if she needs a Nana nap afterwards!”
“It’s safe to say I wouldn’t wish the suffering, pain, roller coaster of emotions and uncertainty on anyone, it’s the worst feeling in the world but your support group means a lot to me and my family. I want to give back and hopefully help other families that are struggling and so desperately need the support.”
Sean’s Facebook fundraiser for the event raised a wonderful £459.
