Jeanette’s volunteer story
Bringing energy and positivity to volunteering
Jeanette has been volunteering with Brain Tumour Support since 2016, and living with the impact of her own brain tumour diagnosis gives her the motivation to help others experiencing the same challenges.
Her enthusiasm is infectious, and her positive outlook brings great energy to the charity and the people she supports.
Turning experience into action
After her brain tumour diagnosis forced her to give up the job that she loved, and being someone who doesn’t like to sit still for long, Jeanette decided it was time to do something positive. She began helping in any way she could to support fundraising and raise awareness of the charity’s work, especially within the local community.
Fundraising in the community

As well as hosting quiz nights and fundraising events herself, Jeanette has persuaded local pubs and clubs to hold quizzes and charity events, and she always helps out as much as she can.
Her enthusiastic approach, planning skills and cheeky confidence to ask for help or donations all pay dividends. She has also led bucket collection fundraising at Exeter Chiefs rugby matches after Brain Tumour Support was chosen as one of the Charities of the Year by the Exeter Chiefs Foundation.
Bringing people together
Jeanette also makes a great contribution to the Devon and Cornwall friendship groups. Her humour and positivity help create a warm, uplifting space for people to connect.
If Jeanette suggests that we should all get our sparkles on for ‘Sparkle Up Your Day’, it is hard not to follow her lead.
Volunteering gives me such a lot of satisfaction. I have always been a firm believer that you cannot just take, it’s important to give back. It’s my way of saying thank you to Brain Tumour Support and making sure that the charity is there for all those diagnosed in the future.
