1.  BTS cares about EDEI

  • Staff are EDEI competent.
  • Everyone feels they belong

Year 1

August 2023 – April 2024

  • Staff and trustees become more EDEI competent: i.e. aware of and understand EDEI and issues
  • BTS understands the Charity Commission’s expectations
  • Staff/trustees begin to self-educate on EDEI
  • BTS has up-to-date EDEI and recruitment policy and processes
  • New staff understand where EDEI fits and what they are required to do
  • SLT has the skills to ensure staff differences and needs are heard, accepted, respected and considered
  • Staff have a better sense of belonging in the organisation. They feel safe to express their needs/differences knowing they will be heard and considered.
  • BTS asks for feedback from staff and clients to improve its EDEI performance

Year 2

April 2024 – April 2025

  • Staff and trustees are EDEI-competent
  • BTS meets Charity Commission expectations
  • Staff and trustees regularly self-educate on EDEI
  • Staff and Trustees attend training and awareness sessions
  • They actively engage with providing new resources for BTS
  • The recruitment process is visibly EDEI-competent
  • New staff understand BTS EDEI expectations
  • EDEI is part of 11 discussions and Quarterly Reviews
  • BTS staff and clients report feeling heard and respected and having a sense of belonging in the organisation
  • BTS asks for feedback

Year 3

May 2025 – May 2026

  • Staff and trustees are known to be EDEI competent They talk to other organisations about how they do this
  • BTS meets The Charity Commission’s expectations
  • Training and awareness sessions are a core part of the whole team L&D programme Staff cocreate these They also regularly self-educate and share information and resources
  • EDEI is an expected part of the performance review process
  • BTS regularly scans the sector and seeks feedback on best practices to improve its EDEI performance
  • BTS staff report feeling a sense of belonging and safety in the organisation
  • Staff and clients regularly report a feeling of belonging and acceptance No one feels afraid to be who they are

2. External people experience BTS as an organisation that cares about EDEI

Year 1

August 2023 – April 2024

  • BTS external messaging becomes better at reflecting EDEI
  • Support Services and FR activities work at becoming as EDEI-friendly as possible
  • BTS actively seeks to increase its reach and support to a wider demographic of people

Year 2

April 2024 – April 2025

  • BTS has a bank of images and case studies to use in its messaging
  • BTS language reflects its EDEI competence
  • BTS continues to broaden its reach. It has a broader range of clients, volunteers and staff

Year 3

May 2025 – May 2026

  • BTS messaging is EDEI-competent and strong
  • BTS has a broad range of clients, volunteers and staff from the 5 different focus areas
  • BTS has connections with a range of organisations from the 5 focus areas

3. BTS has excellent data and evidence on EDEI on the organisation and on its clients

Year 1

August 2023 – April 2024

  • BTS starts collecting EDEI data
  • BTS works to improve its collection and storage systems and processes across functions including HR
  • BTS undertakes analysis of the data and uses this to establish a baseline for improvement
  • BTS starts to gather specific case studies and stories that reflect the EDEI of both its staff and its clients
  • BTS utilises evidence

Year 2

April 2024 – April 2025

  • Clients and volunteers report feeling heard, respected and their needs considered as much as possible
  • BTS is collecting data efficiently across functions including HR
  • BTS has an efficient database and EDEI data storage system
  • BTS works to its baseline and analyses the data annually
  • BTS has a good store of case studies and stories and continues to collect these
  • FR is finding the data and case studies are ticking the EDEI expectations of funders

May 2025 – May 2026
