Sammie’s story
This is Sammie’s story, told in her own words
We first came into contact with Brain Tumour Support in 2014, when our worlds were torn apart by the news that Jamie had a grade 4 glioblastoma.
Prior to this, Jamie was a keen cyclist, photographer, Lego enthusiast, Star Wars fan and most importantly daddy to our daughter Limonie Sparkle, then aged 10, and son Archie Georgie, aged 6.
Brain Tumour Support was there to provide initial advice and support to our family and to help us navigate through the minefield of doctor’s appointments, surgery and ongoing treatment.
There are many aspects of invaluable support offered through Brain Tumour Support, but we found the counselling service, provided by the charity’s counsellor Kate, to be pivotal to carrying on with some sort of normal family life.
Kate’s experience of brain tumours and how this can affect not just the individual, but the whole family, assisted us in leading a different life from the one we thought living with a brain tumour had planned for us. Her skilled approach supported us to manage expectations, to try and live more in the moment and cherish the time we had together as a family.
There is no doubt that we would not be managing as we are today without her assistance. Our children are able to express their feelings, talk about fears and understand what has happened to Daddy. This is a direct result of Kate’s expertise and genuine care.
Jamie sadly passed away in November 2018 and the charity will continue to support us through this very difficult time.
Kate continues to provide us with the tools to be able to carry on with our day, laugh about funny things that Daddy used to do and make special memories.
Thank you will never seem enough.
