Julie Harvey Champion Fund

Julie Harvey was diagnosed in October 2016 with a grade 4 brain tumour and sadly passed away in February 2019.

She set up her fund with a determination to raise awareness, help others and “shout about brain tumours”, and it is a lasting tribute to her generosity and spirit.

Julie’s current fundraising total is £12,310

What Julie told us when she set up her fund

Woman taking part in charity running eventMy name is Julie Harvey and before I got diagnosed with this grade 4 brain tumour I was a very active person. I was working in a nursing home as an activities coordinator, being a mum and wife as well as training for walks, open water swims and sprint triathlons.

To say this tumour, which was removed, has thrown me is an understatement.

I have had radiotherapy and chemotherapy together, and I am now in a six-month cycle of chemotherapy 5 days on, 23 days off.

When I am feeling good I am training for a 26-mile walk which I hope to do in June and I am also training for a 12-mile bike ride as part of a team triathlon. I am a very determined lady and I do not want this tumour to take over who I am, hence trying to live a normal life!!

I have great support from friends and family and on bad days it is what keeps me going.

I am setting up this Champion Fund as I have been personally affected and want others to know my story. I would like to raise awareness and money so other people can have the help and support that I’ve had.

And for people to know they are not alone!

Julie reflected on the importance of the support that she and her family received throughout her illness and also wrote a blog which is an insightful and moving record of her experiences since diagnosis.

Julie’s JustGiving page has now ended, however you can still donate in Julie’s memory, and add to the legacy of her Champion Fund, by using the donate button below.
