Brain Tumour Support's flagship event, The Weekend, was a huge success this year, with more than 180 attendees taking part.
The event, which is specifically designed to give patients and families the opportunity to meet others affected by a brain tumour diagnosis and also to meet some of the UK's top clinicians, took place at Whittlebury Hall between 22nd and 24th March.
“This was our eighth Weekend event and it never ceases to amaze me how the simple act of getting people together, to talk, laugh, cry and share stories is good for the soul,” said Tina Mitchell Skinner, CEO and Founder of Brain Tumour Support. “I would like to say a personal thank you to all the speakers, volunteers and staff who made The Weekend possible and most of all, to all the patients and families who attended. Together we really are stronger.”
Comprising three days of activities, presentations, workshops and discussions, there was something for everyone at The Weekend. With the theme of "Discovering your new normal", the event focused on the emotional journey that many patients go through, trying to adapt their lives after their diagnosis and featured presentations from inspirational brain tumour survivors as well as from some of the UK's most eminent neurosurgeons and researchers.
"The Weekend was everything I was hoping for and more," said one attendee. "I've been inspired to be more open about my journey if it can be helpful to others. It was so lovely to meet so many fabulous, inspirational people. I can't wait for the next one!"
