Four new staff join the Brain Tumour Support team

As Brain Tumour Support expands, the charity has recruited three new Brain Tumour Support Workers and a regional Volunteer Coordinator.

"We wholeheartedly welcome Sarah Erskine, Jayne Hodges, Trish Moroney and Narinder Gill to our team," said Tina Mitchell Skinner, CEO and Founder of Brain Tumour Support. "It is always so exciting to have new members of our team, with each one bringing new perspectives, different skills and fresh ideas to our growing organisation."

Sarah Erskine

Brain Tumour Support Worker – Bristol, Taunton, Hereford (and Meningioma Group) Sarah’s ‘portfolio’ career includes work as a special needs teacher, autism trainer, presenter, airline cabin crew, researcher, safari cook, magazine editor, writer, counsellor and community-learning tutor. She has designed face masques, waved a toilet brush at conferences and rejected a very sensible job at a fridge company. She tucked a teaching degree and an MA in scriptwriting under her belt along the way. A journey through the world of disability and autism prompted her to establish support groups for parents of disabled children and a belief in the power of peer support led her to join Brain Tumour Support  and her creative and versatile skills bring much to the role.

Jayne Hodges Brain Tumour Support Worker – Greater Manchester, Shropshire and Staffordshire After working in the finance sector for many years, Jayne decided to make a complete career change and work in a sector where she could make a difference. She began by working for the NHS within a Health Visiting Team and Children’s Occupational Therapy Service. Following that, and for the past 13 years, she has worked for a charity supporting both adult and young carers. Her roles have included Carers Centre Manager, providing support to visitors to the Centre and managing the day to day activities.

“I get immense satisfaction from supporting others going through difficult times in their lives,” said Jayne.  “I have cared for three members of my family, one of which had a brain tumour. I feel blessed to be part of such a wonderful charity supporting patients, carers and families throughout Staffordshire, Shropshire and Manchester.”

Trish Moroney Peripatetic Brain Tumour Support Worker Having trained as a teacher Trish moved from mainstream education into hospital education. It was in this context that she developed her experience of working with and supporting families and children dealing with serious illness.

She worked in several hospitals, including a branch of Great Ormond Street, before being appointed to the headship of St George’s Hospital School. Trish went on to be involved in various projects including lecturing on the PGCE course at Kingston University; developing a complementary health practice, and working as a Parent Carer Support Worker, and School Development Officer for Swindon Carers.  She has also always been involved in voluntary work which most recently included for supporting the Plymouth and Exeter Brain Tumour Support Groups.

Trish's responsibilities include supporting patients and families in areas across the UK where Brain Tumour Support currently does not have Support Groups.

Narinder Gill Volunteer Coordinator - West Midlands After university Narinder worked as an underwriter in mortgage lending. She then made the decision to be closer to her daughter and started an admin role at Age UK Coventry. Since then she has had a number of roles within charities including Volunteering Officer for the Alzheimer's Society. As a result Narinder has seen how important volunteers are to a charity and is looking forward to working with the amazing family of volunteers that help at Brain Tumour Support.
