Incredible Support at the Bristol Half 2015
The 2015 Bristol Half Marathon took place on Sunday 13th September and Brain Tumour Support was there in force. We had approximately 30 runners proudly wearing our running vests, and for the first time ever our mascot Mr Hippo was running too!
Under the costume was international triathlete Rachel Bown, running as part of her Champion Fund fundraising, and her achievement in regaining fitness less than a year after brain tumour surgery is an inspiration in itself. Rachel also headed a big contingent from the Avon Valley Runners whose support we really appreciated.
It was wonderful to see so many Brain Tumour Support running tops to raise awareness of the charity and we were also grateful to our enthusiastic BTS Cheer Squad giving encouragement and making plenty of noise along the route.
In addition to runners contributing to Rachel’s Champion Fund,
Martin Pearce set up his own JustGiving page which achieved a fantastic £750; Joanna Wren raised funds through offline sponsorship, with her total yet to be announced; and Ryan Durney and Richard Smale entered to add to the Cordy family’s on-going fundraising - the family’s total currently standing at over £5,000. We also had Lloyd Dean running for us, having seen the day to day impact of a brain tumour diagnosis as his mother is going through an extensive period of recovery following surgery. Lloyd raised almost £700, and we are hugely grateful to him, and to everyone who contributed to a memorable and very worthwhile day.
